Former Top of the Pops presenter Sarah Cawood has shared her fears of a cancer recurrence in an emotional Instagram post. The 51-year-old tearfully revealed that she had recently undergone a mammogram and was concerned about “marks” on her breast. Sarah, who was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in 2022, shared her anxieties with her followers, stating that she is awaiting the results of her mammogram.

In the Instagram story, Sarah can be seen sitting in bed wearing striped pajamas, wiping away tears as she captioned the video, “This is what post-breast cancer anxiety looks like.” She added the song “Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift to the video to convey her emotions.

Expressing her concerns, Sarah wrote, “I got a text today telling me I have an appointment on Tuesday…I had a mammogram two weeks ago, but I also told the breast care nurses I was concerned about some marks on my other boob, so I don’t know whether this appointment is about that (which has already disappeared) or my mammogram. I’m sure it’s the latter, but the fact it’s a bank holiday weekend and the appointment is so soon has me all kinds of anxious. It never leaves you. The fear that It’s Back.”

Despite her worries, Sarah also emphasized that she is currently leading a happy life and hopes for a long and healthy future. She acknowledged that the disease may be gone, but the anxiety lingers. She shared her post to shed light on the reality of living with cancer and to bring awareness to the lasting impact it has on individuals.

Sarah received an outpouring of support from her 34,000 followers, with many expressing their understanding and sending love. One follower commented, “How it makes you feel is so difficult to explain, you have shown it perfectly x I pray all is well and you get to breathe that big sigh of relief.” Another follower sent virtual hugs, saying, “Oh darling, big huge hugs. How do you look so beautiful when you’re wiping snot and tears from your face. Loads of love. You’ve got this.”

Sarah, who gained fame as a host on BBC’s Top of the Pops, announced her breast cancer diagnosis in September 2022 and has since made a full recovery. For more information and support, visit the Breast Cancer Now website.
