We all know how to slap a filter onto an image and hope for the best, but most of us leave real photo editing to the professionals.

Whether it’s the prohibitive cost of many of the editing apps or how complicated they seem at first glance, it’s understandable you might feel like you can’t get the best out of your pictures.

However, TikTokers have come through again, popularising a way to edit your photos completely free and in hardly any time.

TikToks showing the technique have garnered millions of views, and comments are overwhelmingly positive and echo the sentiment, ‘trust the process’.

You only need the photos app on your iPhone, and a handy ‘formula’ to switch the picture’s settings.

Start off by turning your brilliance and exposure to 100. This seems more for the surprise element than anything else, as you turn them both back to 0 at the end of the process.

All the numbers you need are below. Edit in order.

Exposure: 100

Brilliance: 100

Highlights: -32

Shadows: -32

Contrast: -30

Brightness: -15

Black point: 10

Saturation: 9

Vibrancy: 8

Warmth: 10

Tint: 40

Sharpness: 15

Definition: 23

Exposure: 0

Brilliance: 0

This trick doesn’t change you in the picture, it simply brings out the vibrancy of your original snap.

As you can see in the before-and-after above, elements of the photo are more defined and the colours appear brighter in comparison to the shadows.

It might not be influencer-level retouching, but the integrity of your shot is still intact and you didn’t have to resort to a hazy orange filter. That’s got to be a win.

Let us know in the comments how you get on.
