Sally Bretton, best known for her role in the BBC crime drama Death in Paradise, surprised Beyond Paradise fans by revealing that she was actually born with a different name. The 43-year-old actress, who played Martha Lloyd in the show, reprised her role as Humphrey Goodman’s love interest in the spin-off released in 2023.
The second series of Beyond Paradise returned in March and is set to conclude on April 26. However, there are some things that fans may not know about the show’s main star, including her real name. Sally Bretton was actually born Sally Davis. She explained that she came up with her stage name while working at the clothing brand Next. After stumbling upon the name Bretton in a book about the meanings of names, she decided that she liked it and adopted it as her own.
In addition to her role in Beyond Paradise, Sally Bretton is also recognized for her portrayal of Lucy Adams in the long-running sitcom Not Going Out. The series, which first aired in 2006, follows Lee Mack as a fictional version of himself living as a lodger in a London flat. The show recently celebrated its 100th episode, but fans will have to wait for episode 101 as Lee Mack has confirmed that he will not be returning to the sitcom in 2024 in order to focus on other projects.
When asked about his plans for the upcoming year, the 55-year-old actor opened up about his busy schedule. He revealed that he will be involved in more episodes of 1% Club and Would I Lie to You?, but will not be returning to Not Going Out until early 2025, if at all. Lee expressed his love for the show and the cast, but acknowledged that the decision to continue the series is not solely up to him. He jokingly added that he would be happy to return if someone were to offer him a bag of money.
