Richard Madeley Auditions to Replace Sir Lenny Henry as Red Nose Day Host

In an exclusive sneak peek, Richard Madeley’s audition for the role of lead presenter for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day was revealed on BBC Breakfast. The Good Morning Britain star joined forces with the cast of the hit TV series W1A in a quest to find Sir Lenny’s successor.

During the audition, actress Tracey Pritchard asked Madeley, “What do you think you could bring to Red Nose Day?” With confidence, he replied, “Well, obviously you’ve got to be funny…”

However, the mood quickly shifted when comedian Romesh Ranganathan arrived on the scene. Madeley’s disappointment was evident as he exclaimed, “Romesh?! Well, I may as well get out of here, I mean, what’s the point? He always gets everything, doesn’t he? Everything. Jeese.”

Storming out of the room in a fit of frustration, Madeley’s reaction added a dramatic twist to the sketch, which will be aired in full tonight on BBC One.

Fans of W1A will be thrilled to see the cast reunited after several years off the air. Sir Lenny encounters a series of potential celebrity replacements in the sketch, each one more absurd than the last.

The star-studded lineup includes Sir Mo Farah, Tom Davis, Wynne Evans, Lorraine Kelly, and Chesney Hawkes. Sir Mo expressed his excitement about being part of the sketch, saying, “I instantly knew I wanted to be a part of this sketch and couldn’t wait to get stuck in. Who knows, maybe this character could be Sir Lenny’s replacement!”

Red Nose Day is an important fundraising event that addresses urgent issues faced by people in the UK and around the world. Last year’s campaign raised an incredible £35,310,407 through generous donations.

Don’t miss the full sketch airing tonight on BBC One at 7pm as part of Comic Relief 2024. This is an opportunity to laugh, support a great cause, and witness the search for Sir Lenny Henry’s successor unfold.
