In a shocking act of desperation, a man from Kazakhstan was arrested after attempting to sell his own kidney online for $18,000 (approximately £14,000) in an attempt to settle his massive gambling debts.

The individual, in a risky move, put his organ up for sale on the internet, appealing to a “random buyer,” revealed the country’s Ministry of Interior. “He assessed his own kidney at $18,000 and tried to sell it to a random buyer through the Internet. The seller proposed his own body to network users, while all agreements regarding the transplant operation should be arranged by the recipient,” the authorities informed.

The police, alerted by the online offer, decided to intervene, pretending to accept the “deal” and agreeing to perform the transplant and make the payment.

The moment of the arrest occurred in Kokshetau, when agents from the Organized Crime Control Division captured the suspect during the fund transfer.

The authorities managed to seize the money involved in the illegal transaction and revealed that the man is originally from Aktobe but resided in the capital. When interrogated, the man confessed that he needed the money to pay off the accumulated debts due to his gambling addiction.

Currently, a pre-trial investigation is underway to uncover all the details of this disturbing case, which sheds light on the extreme measures some people resort to in order to face their financial crises.
