Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock are embroiled in a court battle over their past business dealings. Blackstock, who used to be Clarkson’s manager under his father’s company, Starstruck Entertainment, is accused of acting as a talent agent and securing jobs for her without a California license. The couple is now arguing over commissions paid to Blackstock during their marriage. Last November, the California Labor Commissioner ruled in Clarkson’s favor, stating that Blackstock violated the state’s California Talent Agencies Act and awarded her $2.6 million. However, Blackstock’s legal team appealed the ruling, leading to a new trial.

The upcoming trial, set to begin on August 27, will focus on Blackstock’s alleged violation of California’s labor laws. Judge Wendy Chang has expanded the scope of Blackstock’s role as Clarkson’s manager, including her work on The Voice, Billboard Music Awards, Royal Caribbean, and The Kelly Clarkson Show. If Clarkson wins the case, Blackstock could owe her an additional $750,000. Blackstock, now a rancher, had to post a bond of almost $4 million ahead of the trial. Witnesses from Clarkson’s talent agency, CAA, are expected to testify, making the trial potentially explosive.

Blackstock’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, expressed his displeasure with Clarkson’s recent victories, arguing that it is morally, ethically, and legally wrong to try to reclaim money from an ex-husband who supported her as her manager and used the earnings for their children and lifestyle during the marriage.

In a shocking turn of events, a business court case has emerged just months after the highly publicized divorce of Clarkson and Blackstock in 2020. The renowned talk show host finds herself at the center of a legal battle with Starstruck Entertainment, who claims she violated their oral agreement. With her labor commission petition filed in October 2020, Clarkson seems to have the upper hand in this case. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding drama.
