Escape To The Country viewers were left emotional during Thursday’s episode when they discovered that Jonnie Irwin, the popular presenter, was featuring on the show. Despite his tragic passing from cancer in February, viewers were able to see him on screen in repeats of the shows he worked on.

Fans of the show took to social media, specifically X (formerly known as Twitter), to pay tribute and send their condolences to Jonnie’s wife and three young children. @ScouseLakes simply said, “Aw, Jonnie Irwin. #EscapeToTheCountry.” @dooleypdarts commented, “Watching @Escape_Country on @BBCOneNI it features one of the late @jonnieirwin. He was one of my favorite presenters on the show. Thinking of his family. Rest In Peace Jonnie.” @sinisterjag wrote, “RIP #escapetothecountry,” with a sad face emoji. Meanwhile, @kellyswann9 added heart emojis to pay tribute to the star, commenting, “Awww, the lovely Johnny Irwin #escapetothecountry.”

In this episode, Jonnie visited Yorkshire to help a couple named Nat and Martin find their dream home. The couple, who had been visiting Yorkshire for 30 years, explained that it was their go-to place for peace and quiet after a hectic 30 years in London. Nat, a police dog handler, and Martin, who also worked for the police, were ready to retire and wanted to fulfill their dream of moving to Yorkshire, where Martin has family.

Nat and Martin had a budget of £500,000 and were looking for a semi-detached or detached house with at least three bedrooms, a large garden, and a big garage. They also hoped to find a property within an hour of the coast, but interestingly, they ended up favoring properties further inland as they viewed them.

By the end of the show, they had found a property they liked and arranged a second viewing, which delighted Jonnie. He also took the opportunity to showcase the local fish and chips while in the area.
