Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi takes the second spot on the list, with 45% of its IMDB reviews being negative. The film, directed by Rian Johnson, received 332 mentions of ‘disappointing’ and 238 of ‘trash’. Despite being a highly anticipated sequel in the Star Wars franchise, it failed to live up to the expectations of some fans.

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, lands at number three with 36% of its reviews being negative. Directed by Sam Mendes, the film received 219 mentions of ‘boring’ and 155 of ‘disappointing’. Despite being a critical and commercial success, it seems that not everyone was satisfied with this installment of the iconic spy franchise.

Avengers: Endgame, the highest-earning film on the list, comes in at number 15 as the 15th worst sequel. Despite earning a staggering $2.79 billion worldwide, the film garnered negative reviews from 20% of its audience. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film received 164 mentions of ‘disappointing’ and 123 of ‘trash’. This goes to show that even massive box office success doesn’t guarantee a positive public opinion.

These films, along with others on the list, prove that not all sequels live up to the brilliance of their predecessors. While some may argue that it’s difficult to capture the magic of the original, others simply felt let down by these follow-up films. Whether it’s due to poor storytelling, lackluster performances, or simply not meeting audience expectations, these sequels failed to impress.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, released in 2017, takes second place on our list with a staggering 45% of negative reviews. Despite its worldwide earnings of $1.3 billion (£1.04 billion), 735 reviews deemed it ‘terrible’ and a further 800 called it a ‘waste’. The eighth film in the iconic Sci-Fi franchise follows Luke Skywalker’s peaceful life being disrupted by Rey’s quest to learn The Force, while the First Order plans an all-out attack on The Resistance.

Coming in at third place is the James Bond blockbuster Skyfall, which left fans both shaken and stirred. 36% of its reviews were negative, with Esquire even dubbing it ‘the most boring Bond movie of all’. IMDB reviews didn’t fare much better, using words like ‘trash,’ ‘disaster,’ and ‘garbage’. The 2012 action film follows Daniel Craig’s 007 on a calamitous mission to uncover the mastermind behind the exposure of undercover agents worldwide.

The Transformers franchise makes a second appearance in our top 10 with Dark of the Moon. This installment garnered 34% negative reviews, with 92 critics labeling it as ‘terrible’ and 90 calling it ‘boring’. Released in 2012, the blockbuster sees Sam Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly joining the Autobots in their ongoing war against the Decepticons.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, released in 2018, didn’t receive much praise either. As the sequel to Jurassic World, this film acquired 34% negative reviews. Set three years after the destruction of Jurassic World, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing return to Isla Nublar to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from an impending volcanic eruption.

Jurassic World, a sequel franchise to Jurassic Park, also made it onto our list with mixed reviews. Stay tuned for more updates on the latest movies!

Two entrants in the Jurassic World trilogy are on the list. In sixth place, the first Jurassic Park film sits as the continuation of Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur franchise didn’t exactly go down well with all fans. Though it fares slightly better than Fallen Kingdom, 32% of Jurassic World’s reviews on IMDB ended up being bad ones – though this is probably considerably less than the actual fictional theme park received. The 2015 film sees the opening of Jurassic World, a luxury resort off the coast of Costa Rica where dinosaurs have been brought to life, but visitors are put in mortal danger when the genetically modified Indominus rex escapes and runs amok.

Avatar returned to our screens in 2022 more than a decade after James Cameron’s original film – but not everyone was impressed. Out of more than 3,000 IMDB reviews, 31% weren’t on board with The Way of Water, just one of the four planned Avatar sequels. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Ney’tiri (Zoey Saldana) are forced to leave Pandora when an ancient threat resurfaces, with Jake fighting a difficult war against the humans.

Just like Jurassic World and Transformers, Star Wars enters this list twice with the first film in the modern trilogy disappointing viewers. Starring John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, and Adam Driver, Episode VII: The Force Awakens garnered mixed reviews with 30% of almost 5,000 on IMDB being less than impressed. Set 30 years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, a new threat in the form of the First Order rises as forces Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and the Resistance to combat a fresh evil.

Iron Man is arguably one of the most iconic Avengers members, but the third film in his standalone franchise didn’t prove a hit. Released in 2013, the Robert Downey Jr-fronted film amassed thousands of IMDB reviews, with 26% found to be negative. In it, Tony Stark (Downey Jr) finds himself as reliant on his suit as ever, with a new threat turning his personal life into chaos and forcing him to rely on instinct and ingenuity alone to save the people he loves.
