Strictly Come Dancing Wins Best Entertainment Bafta

In a surprising turn of events, Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly took the stage on Sunday night after Strictly Come Dancing was awarded the prestigious best entertainment Bafta. Claudia expressed her shock, stating, “We’re quite shocked. I feel wobbly and weird!” Tess agreed, adding, “We feel a bit unnecessary because we’re quite overwhelmed. We don’t take it for granted. Have we won three times?”

Continuing the conversation, Claudia’s co-star chimed in, “I’m not counting but also we’re such a close team. And looking at their faces. When they said our name I feel like it took us about 49 minutes to get to the stage. We’re not live, so they will be able to edit it.” This victory comes in the show’s 20th year on air since its launch in 2004.

Following the announcement, viewers quickly took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Strictly’s win. @AllahrakhiDivya exclaimed, “Omg Congratulations, truly well deserved my all-time favourite and the greatest show Strictly Come Dancing.” @AnnieSugden75 added, “#Strictly winning a #Bafta [sic]. Congratulations.” @danielmarkhurst celebrated, “Congratulations Strictly! Specifically, it’s the show’s 20th Birthday on Wednesday THIS WEEK, as Series 1 aired earlier in the year!” @atvfriend tweeted, “Tess looks absolutely gorgeous in her dress [sic] Go Strictly.” @slinehan1 praised, “SO well deserved!!”

Beating out tough competition from Michael Mcintyre, Hannah Waddingham, and Jools Holland, Claudia and Tess were visibly stunned upon hearing their names announced as the winners. As they took the stage to collect their award, the camera captured a cheeky moment from Ted Lasso star, who was seen discreetly taking a swig from a hip flask on her wrist. Tess expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are properly and genuinely overwhelmed. Thank you Bafta for making it worth putting on Spanx on the hottest day of the year.”

In other news from the ceremony, Jasmine Jobson was awarded the first prize of the evening for best supporting actress in Netflix’s gritty gang drama Top Boy. Overwhelmed by her win, she shared, “I don’t know what to say, I’m so overwhelmed, I was not expecting this. I just try to do what I do to change a life and save a life.”
