Russell Brand, 48, was joined by his close friend Bear Grylls and another man for a baptism ceremony in the Thames River this week. The actor and comedian has been friends with Grylls since last year when they appeared together on the Disney+ show Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge. Russell described the baptism as an opportunity to leave the past behind. He shared a post on Instagram, captioned: “Me, Bear Grylls, The River Thames and of course, The Holy Spirit.” This comes after Russell faced allegations of sexual assault, rape, and abuse from four women last year, which he strongly denies. Despite the controversy, Russell expressed feeling “incredibly blessed” after the baptism and said it was an “incredible, profound experience.”

While many of Russell’s fans supported his religious awakening, some have raised eyebrows and questioned the authenticity of his conversion. One user joked about the cleanliness of the River Thames, while another called his conversion “off and exhibitionist.” However, Russell’s followers defended his decision, noting that it is interesting how it bothers people to see someone find God.
