HAVE YOU BEEN CHEATED AT THE PUB? STUDY REVEALS SHOCKING SHORT MEASURES

Have you ever been handed a drink at the pub and felt like you’ve been cheated? Well, it turns out you’re not alone. A recent study by trading standards has found that more than two-thirds of drinks served in pubs across the UK are not measuring up to what customers are paying for.

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) conducted tests across the country, purchasing pints, half-pints, and 175ml glasses of wine. Out of the 137 test purchases, a staggering 96 were found to be short measures. That means 70% of the drinks tested were not filled correctly.

The issue is not just limited to beer or wine. The study found that 86% of pints were short measured, while 43% of wine orders also fell short. This comes at a time when the price of alcoholic drinks is at an all-time high, with red wine prices increasing by 8% in the last year alone.

So, how much money are customers losing with every short measured drink? On average, beer drinkers lose 4% of their drink, while wine lovers lose 5%. This amounts to a loss of £1.70 per week for beer drinkers and £2.20 per week for wine drinkers. In a year, that adds up to £88.40 and £114.40, respectively.

But where were the top three short measures found? The largest deficit of 15% was discovered in [location], where a 175ml glass of wine was priced at £3.20. The second largest deficit of 13.4% was found in [location], where a glass of wine was sold for £7.20. Finally, the third largest deficit of 12% was found in [location], east London, with a 175ml glass of wine costing £5.75.

It’s clear that customers are not getting what they paid for when it comes to their drinks. With prices on the rise, it’s more important than ever for pubs to ensure they are serving full measures. Otherwise, customers will continue to feel cheated and may choose to stay away from the pub altogether.

SHOCKING REVELATION: Are you being ripped off at the bar? New study exposes widespread short measuring of drinks

In a groundbreaking study, the Consumer Council for Trade and Standards Investigations (CTSI) has uncovered the alarming truth about short measuring of alcoholic beverages in the UK. This is the first time that a national overview of this issue has been compiled, revealing the extent of the problem and the staggering amount of money customers are losing as a result.

John Herriman, CEO of CTSI, expressed his concerns, stating, “We are calling on the hospitality sector to take immediate action and ensure that consumers are getting their money’s worth. It is imperative that pubs and bars accurately measure the drinks they serve to customers. Further research in this area is also urgently needed.”

Nik Antona, the national chairman of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), echoed these sentiments, describing the findings as “extremely concerning.” With the upcoming bank holiday weekend just around the corner, Antona offered valuable advice to those who suspect their drinks are being short measured.

“If you believe your drink is not being served in the correct quantity, especially if it is more than 5% short, don’t hesitate to approach the bar staff and request an immediate top-up,” Antona advised. “Remember, you have every right to do so, and the staff should comply with your request without hesitation. However, if you encounter any resistance, it is important to report the incident to Trading Standards.”

Don’t let unscrupulous establishments cheat you out of your hard-earned money. Stand up for your rights as a consumer and demand fair measures at the bar. Together, we can put an end to this injustice.
