Helldivers 2 is facing backlash from players on Steam due to a new requirement. In order to enhance security, players will now have to link their PlayStation Network account when playing the game. This move has not been well received by some players. Despite its success in the UK and the US, where it has topped the charts and become one of the highest grossing Sony published games, the cross-platform release of Helldivers 2 has come with its share of frustrations. PC players, even those without a PlayStation console, will now be required to have a PlayStation Network account. This requirement was temporarily removed at launch due to technical issues, but Sony has now made it mandatory for new players and current players on Steam. The change is aimed at protecting players and upholding safety and security values. However, since the news broke about the PSN requirement, negative reviews have flooded in, with 89.1% of them being negative. Some players have even claimed that “the game is dead”. This move by Sony has caused frustration among players and has sparked a wave of negative reviews on Steam. Despite the inconvenience, the linking of accounts across multiplatform games is becoming more common. Other games like Sea Of Thieves and Grounded also require players to link accounts for cross-play. This trend is likely to continue as Xbox and PlayStation focus more on multiplatform releases.
