WARNING: Spoilers ahead for NCIS! The iconic Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon, had a signature style that fans grew to love during his 19 seasons on the hit police procedural. Sporting a sport coat, polo shirt, and white T-shirt underneath, Gibbs rarely deviated from this look. However, it turns out that he wasn’t the original trendsetter. According to Rachel Good, the costume supervisor on the show, Gibbs actually copied this style from a fellow co-worker named McCallister. In a behind-the-scenes video, Good explained that Gibbs always wears a white T-shirt as a nod to his Marine background. It was McCallister who first donned the polo and sport coat combo, and Gibbs decided to emulate the look.

McCallister, portrayed by Michael O’Neill, was a retired NCIS special agent who was later revealed to be the mastermind behind a conspiracy against NCIS director Leon Vance. In a clip shown in the behind-the-scenes video, Gibbs, dressed in formal attire, can be seen observing McCallister’s signature ensemble. Despite the trouble McCallister caused for the team, it seems he unknowingly influenced Gibbs’ fashion choices for years to come. While Gibbs may no longer be part of the drama, NCIS continues to thrive on CBS.
