LUKE SHAW IN DOUBT FOR FA CUP FINAL AFTER LATEST SETBACK

Manchester United’s Luke Shaw is facing a race against time to be fit for the FA Cup final against Manchester City. The left-back has had a difficult season plagued by injuries, making only 15 starting appearances. Shaw’s comeback from a previous injury was short-lived, as he suffered a setback after just five games. With Tyrell Malacia also out for the entire campaign, United are left without a recognised left-back. Shaw’s chances of featuring in England’s Euro 2024 campaign are also in doubt, as he joins teammate Harry Maguire in the recovery room.

Manager Erik ten Hag provided an update on Shaw’s injury, revealing that his chances of making the cup final are slim. “Luke is more complicated. In this moment, let’s say it’s a less chance that he will make it. But there is still a very small, reduced chance,” ten Hag said. The setback has left the club scrambling to find out how far Shaw is from a return. Maguire, on the other hand, has a fair chance of being available for the final Premier League game against Brighton and the cup final.

Despite the setbacks, United received a boost with the return of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Lisandro Martinez from injury in their recent victory over Newcastle United. Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have also returned to training, adding to the team’s growing list of potential comebacks. Ten Hag remained hopeful that more players would be available for the upcoming matches, but the final decisions will be made after assessing their progress in training.

As for England’s Euro 2024 campaign, Shaw’s involvement remains uncertain. Ten Hag made it clear that the decision is not up to him. However, the focus now is on getting Shaw fit for the highly anticipated cup final clash. With time running out, United will do everything in their power to give Shaw a chance to feature in the game. Fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on Shaw’s condition as the final approaches.
