Mama June Shannon, known for her reality TV stardom, is taking control of her weight once again. After undergoing gastric sleeve surgery and losing over 100 pounds nearly a decade ago, she has now announced her decision to use semaglutide, the generic form of Ozempic and Wegovy, to continue her weight loss journey. In a social media video posted on Tuesday, Mama June explained that despite initially maintaining her weight at around 130-150 pounds, she has noticed a significant weight gain over the past year and a half.

The 44-year-old reality star revealed that the weight gain was a result of the stress she experienced while taking care of her daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who sadly passed away from cancer in December 2023. Mama June admitted to gaining approximately 120-130 pounds due to various factors, including unhealthy eating habits and eating out frequently. Despite her attempts to eat less and make healthier choices, she struggled to shed the excess weight.

A few months ago, Mama June made the decision to try semaglutide under the guidance of her doctor. She plans to provide weekly updates on her progress, emphasizing that she will focus on how her clothes fit rather than the number on the scale. Currently, she wears extra-large and plus-sized clothing. In an Instagram post, she invited her followers to join her on this journey, seeking their input and sharing her experiences with the medication.

Mama June acknowledged that she had reservations about using weight loss medications in the past due to potential side effects such as nausea, fatigue, and dizziness. However, she is not alone in turning to these medications for support. Other celebrities, including Sharon Osbourne, Chelsea Handler, Tracy Morgan, and Rebel Wilson, have also admitted to using the type 2 diabetes medication for weight loss.

Despite her previous concerns, Mama June is determined to regain control of her weight. She expressed confidence in herself, stating that she did not want to reach 200 pounds, a milestone she has unfortunately surpassed. With the support of her husband, Justin Shroud, who administered her first dose of the medication, Mama June is ready to embark on this new chapter of her weight loss journey.
