JEREMY CLARKSON’S DAUGHTER SLAMS HIM OVER CONTROVERSIAL MEGHAN MARKLE COLUMN

Jeremy Clarkson’s own daughter, Emily, has joined the chorus of voices criticizing her father over his controversial column about Meghan Markle. In the column, published in The Sun in December 2022, the former Top Gear star expressed his hatred for the Duchess of Sussex, comparing it to his feelings towards notorious serial killer Rose West and former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

The column, in which Clarkson expressed his desire to see Meghan paraded naked through the streets of Britain while being pelted with excrement, quickly ignited a firestorm of criticism. It received the highest number of complaints since the establishment of IPSO in 2014.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle themselves released a statement accusing Clarkson of spreading hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny. Numerous celebrities, including Carol Vorderman and Denise Welch, rallied to Meghan’s defense.

Emily Clarkson, taking a stand against her father’s words, made her position clear on Instagram. She stated that she stands against misogyny, bullying, and the mistreatment of women by the media. She emphasized that she stands in support of those who are targeted with online hatred.

Jeremy Clarkson eventually issued a public apology, revealing that he had emailed Meghan and Harry during the Christmas season to express his profound remorse for the language used in his column. He admitted that he had rushed the publication of the column and acknowledged that he had made a grave mistake.

Clarkson also revealed that his employers at ITV and Amazon, who produce his shows Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Clarkson’s Farm, and The Grand Tour, were furious upon learning about the column’s publication.

MEGHAN AND HARRY HIT BACK AT JEREMY CLARKSON’S APOLOGY

Meghan and Harry have responded to Jeremy Clarkson’s recent claims that he emailed both of them on Christmas Day. In a joint statement, the couple clarified that Clarkson only addressed his apology to Harry. However, they also highlighted their concerns about Clarkson’s history of spreading hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny through his articles.

The Sun, the publication that featured Clarkson’s column, has since apologized and removed the article from its website. They acknowledged that the column did not meet their high editorial standards and should not have been published.

In a separate ruling by IPSO, the Independent Press Standards Organisation, it was determined that Clarkson’s column was sexist towards Meghan. The chairman of IPSO described the imagery used as “humiliating and degrading.” While the ruling acknowledged the pejorative reference to Meghan’s sex, it rejected claims of discrimination based on race, inaccuracies, or harassment.

In response to the ruling, The Sun stated that they recognize the responsibility that comes with free expression.
