ITV’s hit crime drama Vera is set to conclude after the upcoming series, following the departure of star Brenda Blethyn. The actress made the emotional announcement, expressing her gratitude for the past fourteen years working on the show. Blethyn also thanked the creator of Vera, Ann Cleeves, and the casting director, Elaine Collins, for giving her the opportunity to play the iconic role.

After filming the next series, which will take place this summer, Blethyn will retire Vera Stanhope’s famous trench coat and hat. The final season will consist of two feature-length episodes, adding to the 54 episodes already produced. Fans who were thrilled to hear about the fourteenth season may be disappointed to learn that there won’t be a Christmas special in 2024. They will have to wait until early 2025 to witness the detective’s swansong.
