The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest is just a few weeks away and it will be held in Malmo, Sweden. After Loreen’s victory in Liverpool last year with her song “Tattoo,” Sweden was chosen as the host country. More than 100,000 fans are expected to attend the event in person, while an estimated 160 million viewers will be watching from home. Olly Alexander will be representing the UK in the competition and his odds of winning are steadily improving. From May 7-11, a total of 37 countries will be competing, with six automatically qualifying for the final. The remaining countries will compete in the semi-finals for a chance to qualify for the grand final. Luxembourg will be returning to the contest after 31 years, while Romania has decided not to participate. The event will take place in Malmo, which won the bidding against Stockholm and Gothenburg. This will be the seventh time that Sweden has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest, with the main venue being the 15,500-seat Malmö Arena. The three live Eurovision shows will be presented by Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman. Petra, a Swedish comedian, dancer, actress, and television presenter, previously hosted Eurovision in 2013 and 2016. Malin, a Swedish-born actress known for her roles in Hollywood movies, expressed her excitement and nervousness about being a part of the show. Olly Alexander, the frontman of band Years & Years, will represent the UK in this year’s competition.

Olly Alexander, known for his role in Russell T Davies’ It’s A Sin, is set to represent the UK at Eurovision. This marks his first solo venture, as he co-wrote his entry Dizzy with Danny L Harle. The song explores intense emotions and how they can turn one’s world upside down. In addition to his music career, Olly has also made appearances on screen, earning him a National Television Award for his role in It’s A Sin.

The Eurovision Semi-Finals will be held on May 7 and 9, with the Grand Final taking place on May 11. The Semi-Finals will be hosted by Scott Mills and Rylan, and will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8pm. The Grand Final, hosted by Graham Norton, will also air at 8pm on the Saturday.

In terms of predictions, Switzerland is currently the favorite to win this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, followed by Croatia, the Netherlands, Italy, Ukraine, Israel, France, Greece, and Ireland. The UK rounds out the top 10 contenders.
