MONEY CAN’T BUY LOVE: Cheryl Burke Opens Up About Failed Marriage

In a candid interview on iHeartRadio’s “Amy & T.J.” podcast, former “Dancing With the Stars” pro Cheryl Burke discussed her failed marriage to Matthew Lawrence. The 39-year-old dancer theorized that her role as the breadwinner in their relationship did not contribute to its success. “I learned that you can’t buy love,” Burke admitted to hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes.

Burke, who filed for divorce from Lawrence in 2022, revealed that she supported the couple financially throughout their marriage. However, she acknowledged that money alone couldn’t save their relationship. “It made me feel good, but then it didn’t necessarily make the relationship good,” Burke explained.

The dancer’s departure from “DWTS” in November 2022 was likened to a divorce. Burke expressed her overwhelming emotions, stating, “I’ve been trying to hold back the tears because I wanted to really perform the best I could. Now with all of that behind me, it’s bittersweet.” She described the experience as another type of divorce, but an amicable one.

During her interview, Burke emphasized that leaving the dancing competition show was more challenging than going through her actual divorce. “You can’t compare,” she said. Despite being happily single in January 2023, Burke admitted that she’s unsure if she’s ready to pursue love again. However, she knows exactly what she wants in a partner. “I want someone who wants to evolve,” she stated. “Someone who can take accountability when needed and someone who’s supportive.”
