Casualty’s Dylan Keogh, portrayed by William Beck, has recently faced difficulties as he clashed with new Clinical Lead Patrick Onley, played by Jamie Glover. In tonight’s episode, it seems that Patrick has pushed Dylan to his breaking point, resulting in Dylan quitting and returning his ID, declaring, “I don’t think I can do this anymore.”

This unexpected departure will surely shock fans of the long-running BBC medical drama, especially as it follows Patrick’s suggestion that Dylan may be autistic. However, William, the actor behind the beleaguered medic, wants to make it clear that this alone is not the sole reason for Dylan’s resignation.

In an exclusive interview, William shared, “I mean, obviously, the relationship between Dylan and neurodivergence is one that, if I’m entirely honest, and probably in common with people who are neurodivergent anyway, it’s something that is the subject of conversation for other people in a way that I hope is really beneficial.”

“But it’s not something that I give a name to. Because why exclude everybody else? We are all capable of understanding each individual decision to some extent, and I would certainly say that Dylan’s decision-making pattern is eccentric.”

“However, professionally, I don’t think Dylan can be faulted. There are many things he might have done differently, but overall, I think he is pretty good with medicine. So when Patrick associates this idea of autism with Dylan’s inability to perform his work… given Patrick’s position as Clinical Lead, and considering Max’s similar criticism of Dylan’s abilities, Dylan feels like there’s nothing left for him.”

“In those situations, anyone would crack. I mean, I’ve had fever dreams about jobs where I fantasized about telling them to stick it. It’s a nice fantasy, but it doesn’t work out so well in reality,” the actor chuckled.

Whether or not Dylan can be convinced to return is yet to be seen. In real life, William has a much better relationship with Jamie Glover than their characters do. In fact, he confessed to almost “fangirling” over Jamie when he joined the cast.

DYLAN AND PATRICK’S TENSE RELATIONSHIP ON CASUALTY

In a recent interview, William, who plays the character of William on the hit medical drama Casualty, opened up about the tense relationship between his character and Dylan, played by actor Patrick. While Dylan and Patrick may not see eye to eye on the show, William revealed that off-screen, the two actors actually get along quite well.

Speaking about the dynamic between the characters, William acknowledged the challenges they face. “We’ve had the departure of Max and then obviously of Charlie which leaves such a kind of a gap in the engine room of the way department runs,” he explained. “I suppose in a way you could say that the only option for somebody like Patrick is to come in and set about making sure that nobody has time to be resentful of the new guard.”

However, William also noted that Patrick’s approach can be quite brash and inconsistent. “The frustrating thing for the staff, but the entertaining thing for the viewers is just how inconsistent he can be,” William shared. “On the one hand, praising and then you know, almost immediately following up with a little pop here and there.”

Despite their on-screen differences, William had nothing but praise for his co-star Jamie, who portrays Dylan on the show. “Jamie is such a fantastic actor,” William gushed. “It’s so much fun to have somebody – you know apart from anything he’s played Harry Potter. This is really important information because I’ve got two nine-year-old boys and it is hugely significant information for them. It was all I could do not to fangirl really!”
