Bluey Fans in for a Treat as Extended Episode Airs Worldwide
Bluey fans, both young and old, are in for a treat as a special extended episode of the beloved cartoon is set to air globally. Titled “The Sign,” this 28-minute episode marks a new era for the show and is part of a larger plan that will surely delight parents and children alike.
Executive producer Daley Pearson revealed that the team behind Bluey would love to make a movie, and “The Sign” will serve as a test to see how audiences react to a longer episode. Typically, Bluey episodes run for seven to nine minutes, so this extended installment will be a departure from the norm. Pearson emphasized that the success of the longer episode is not guaranteed but expressed excitement to see how viewers respond.
In an interview with ABC Radio Brisbane, Pearson explained, “There was an element of, ‘Can an audience watch Bluey for longer?’ I think we’ll wait until Sunday to find out, and that’ll help us figure out our own future.”
This episode comes on the heels of a controversy where Bluey fans threatened to boycott the show after discovering that the Heeler family home, often referred to as the “fifth character,” was up for sale. Concerned parents shared their children’s fears about where the Heeler family would move and if they would be leaving behind the other beloved characters.
Creator Joe Brumm defended the decision, drawing from his own experiences as inspiration for Bluey’s storylines. He explained, “It feels like after three seasons, the house itself has become a sort of fifth Heeler character. Some past episodes have touched on how a room can become imbued with memories and take on a life of its own. But families leave houses all the time.” Brumm added that he vividly remembers his own experiences of moving as a child, similar to Bluey and Bingo’s age.
