Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, daughter of the famous Gollum actor Andy Serkis, is eager to follow in her father’s footsteps and try out motion-capture roles. With the release of the latest Planet of the Apes film, which starred Andy as the intelligent chimp Caesar, motion-capture performances are in the spotlight. Andy will also be reprising his iconic role as Gollum in an upcoming spin-off film set in Middle Earth called the Hunt for Gollum.

In an exclusive interview, Ruby expressed her admiration for motion capture as an art form. She loves the fact that it allows actors to literally become anyone they want, as her father has proven. Andy pioneered the technique in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and has since portrayed various VFX characters, including Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars and Baloo in his Jungle Book film.

Ruby sees motion capture as a way to have the freedom to be anything and loves the added thrill of the digital effects that are added in post-production. While Ruby is not part of the cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, she is excited to see the film and hopes to be involved in future installments of the planned trilogy.
