Sporting CP head coach, Ruben Amorim, has publicly apologized to his players and supporters after his recent talks with West Ham. The 39-year-old, who was considered as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, traveled to London earlier this week for discussions with the Premier League club. Amorim returned to Portugal on Tuesday evening but did not comment on his trip to the media. However, ahead of Sporting’s upcoming match against Porto, he took the opportunity to address the situation and admitted that it was a “mistake” to engage in talks with West Ham.

Amorim acknowledged that the club was aware of his trip, which he believed was an important factor that changed the context of the situation. However, he also acknowledged the secrecy surrounding his journey, revealing that he parked his car discreetly, interacted with people, and boarded the plane without drawing attention. Despite this, he emphasized that it was inappropriate and a misjudgment on his part, especially considering his own expectations and demands on his players. He accepted full responsibility for the mistake and expressed his regret.

Amorim clarified that he did communicate with his players and staff about the situation, contrary to rumors suggesting otherwise. He now aims to move forward and hopes to use this public apology as a means to express his remorse to the Sporting fans, staff, and most importantly, his players.
