Line of Duty Star Vicky McClure Breaks Silence on Future of Hit Series
It’s been a long wait for Line of Duty fans, but the star of the show, Vicky McClure, has finally opened up about the future of the hit series. The 41-year-old actress, who played Kate Fleming in the police drama, recently reunited with her co-star Martin Compston (Steve Arnott) and spilled the beans on whether another series is in the works. In an interview with Radio Times, McClure joked about having the script in her bag but ultimately revealed that she had nothing to share. Despite the lack of concrete information, she expressed her close bond with her co-stars, saying, “We’re proper pals, it’s a beautiful thing.”
Line of Duty first hit screens in 2012 on BBC Two and quickly gained popularity among viewers. It was subsequently renewed for two more series and eventually moved to BBC One, where it became the highest-rated series on the channel in a decade. The sixth series concluded on May 2, 2021, and McClure’s portrayal of Kate earned her both a TV Choice Award and a TV Times Award in 2021.
In addition to her success on Line of Duty, McClure has appeared in various other television series, including This Is England in 2006, This Is England ’86 in 2010, and the recent ITV series Trigger Point. Off-screen, the actress tied the knot with her film director partner Jonny Owen in August 2020. The couple’s wedding was attended by their Line of Duty co-stars, as well as other celebrities such as football managers Rob Page and Sean Dyche and Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness. McClure shared the joyous news on Instagram, describing it as the “Best. Day. Ever!”
McClure, who hails from the Wollaton area of Nottingham, looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder gown with a thigh-high leg slit, while Jonny donned a double-breasted navy suit and pale blue tie. The couple’s first dance was serenaded by the Dementia Choir, a cause close to McClure’s heart that she has actively supported.
As Line of Duty fans eagerly await news of another series, McClure’s recent comments have provided a glimmer of hope.
