Susanna Reid slams PM Rishi Sunak for dodging interview on Good Morning Britain ahead of General Election. In a clip played on the show, the Prime Minister was seen outside Downing Street in the rain, with protestors blaring the Labour anthem in the background. Richard Madeley expressed his disappointment, stating that as a voter, he wanted to hear an important announcement from the PM. Reid agreed, saying that it was an error for Sunak not to appear on the programme, as they wanted him to connect with voters. She mentioned that they had received numerous messages from voters who wanted to hear from the main parties.

During the discussion, Reid made a humorous comment, saying that one did not need to be a columnist or scriptwriter to come up with the line “Things can only get wetter” in reference to the rainy clip of the Prime Minister. A guest on the show suggested that Sunak should have appeared on Good Morning Britain instead of BBC Breakfast, and speculated that he might correct that decision the next day.

Sunak has strongly denied claims that the decision to call a summer election is motivated by anticipated inflation rises and an expected increase in small boat arrivals during the warmer months. In an interview with BBC Breakfast, he stated that this was not the real reason.

The Prime Minister is currently visiting various broadcast studios before embarking on a two-day tour across all four nations of the UK. Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer is focusing on south-east England to gain ground in Conservative strongholds. Richard Tice, the leader of Reform UK, is holding a press conference in London to outline his party’s plans, with Nigel Farage considering a return to frontline politics by running in the upcoming election. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey is also starting his campaign, aiming to capture Conservative-held seats after a series of successful by-election victories.
