Gareth Southgate snubs Arsenal star Ben White for Euro 2024 squad

Gareth Southgate has announced his provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024, but there is no place for Arsenal’s Ben White. The England manager revealed that he did not try to persuade White to change his mind about representing the national team. Southgate now faces the task of cutting seven players from the squad by June 7. The defensive injury crisis, with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw struggling to recover in time for the first group game against Serbia, makes White’s versatility a valuable asset. However, White has chosen not to play for England since a reported fallout with Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland. Despite his absence from international duty, White has been in excellent form for Arsenal, excelling as a dynamic right-back.

Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad

In a surprising move, Gareth Southgate has omitted Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson from his provisional Euro 2024 squad. Rashford, who has featured in the last four major tournaments, has struggled for form at Manchester United this season. Vice-captain Henderson, on the other hand, made a controversial move to Saudi side Al-Ettifaq last summer after leaving Liverpool for Ajax in January. The absence of Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, and Levi Colwill is less unexpected. Southgate has included several uncapped players in the training group, including Liverpool youngsters Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, as well as Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Jarrad Branthwaite, James Trafford, Kobbie Mainoo, Ivan Toney, and Ollie Watkins have also received their first call-ups.
