Fans of Peaky Blinders will be thrilled to see Sophie Rundle back on their screens, embodying the same determination and strength as Ada Shelby. Rundle is now starring in an exciting crime thriller, After the Flood, which will be airing on Britbox in the US and ITV in the UK.

In this limited series, Rundle takes on the role of police officer Joanna Marshall, who becomes fixated on an unidentified man found dead after a devastating flood. Adding to the intensity, Joanna is heavily pregnant and faces opposition from her colleagues and partner, who want her to take it easy.

Right from the start, the series showcases Joanna’s pregnancy as she fearlessly wades through high water in her police uniform. This immediately establishes Rundle’s character as a defiant woman who refuses to succumb to societal pressures that often force mothers out of the workforce. Peaky Blinders fans will recognize this mindset from Rundle’s character in the hit show.

“I think it was a really smart setup to have her and to have her pregnant throughout the series,” Rundle shared in an exclusive interview. Throughout the show, we witness Jo grappling with the opinions of her partner, mother, and society as a whole, all while trying to unravel the central mystery.

Rundle emphasizes that anyone who has experienced pregnancy will likely relate to Jo’s yearning for self-identity and her determination to maintain independence as her body undergoes changes. She believes that society still has a long way to go in how it approaches pregnancy, acknowledging that each pregnancy is unique and requires support, empathy, and an open mind.

After portraying one of Peaky Blinder’s strongest female characters for nine years, it’s evident that Rundle is intentional about choosing roles that center around women’s stories. So, what about reprising her role as Ada in the highly acclaimed show?

“Everybody asks me about the Peaky Blinders movie, including my mom. She’s like, ‘give me the [gossip].’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t have it. They don’t trust actors with it,'” Rundle playfully jokes.

Although the series concluded with a thrilling finale in 2022, its creator, Steven Knight, has hinted at plans for a film to wrap up the story. Knight has confirmed that the show’s lead, Cillian Murphy, is on board, and filming is scheduled to begin in September.

“I think what is amazing about the Peaky Blinders movie is that there is still an appetite for it. That’s incredible,” Rundle expresses.

When asked about the project, Rundle humbly states, “It is up to people far more impressive and important than me. Cillian is busy dominating the world, and it’s between him and Steven Knight. It’s their story to tell.”

PEAKY BLINDERS STAR KEEN FOR SHOW’S RETURN

Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle has expressed her eagerness for the hit show to continue, if its creator and lead actor/producer are on board. Rundle, who plays Ada Shelby in the popular period drama, revealed her dedication to the show, stating, “I’m Peaky for life.” She emphasized that Peaky Blinders is a crucial part of her story and that she thoroughly enjoys being a part of its captivating world.
