SOCCER SATURDAY STAR WELCOMES THIRD CHILD AFTER “LONG TEN DAYS” OF UNCERTAINTY

Simon Thomas, the beloved host of Soccer Saturday, is celebrating the arrival of his third child. The sports presenter, 51, and his wife Derrina recently welcomed a baby boy, their second child together. However, the couple endured a challenging and uncertain ten-day period leading up to the birth.

On May 3, Simon took to social media to share the joyous news with his 112,000 Instagram followers. In a series of photos, he can be seen beaming down at Derrina as she cradles their newborn son. Another heartwarming image shows Simon tenderly kissing his son’s head while they lay together on a hospital bed.

Reflecting on the emotional journey they experienced, Simon expressed his gratitude for the safe arrival of their baby. He wrote, “After a long ten days of endless hospital visits and uncertainty, feel incredibly blessed to be able to say that Theo Benjamin Thomas was born this week – Ethan & Talitha have a little brother!”

Simon also praised his wife, calling her the “most incredible mum” and vowing to always support and cheer for their son. He thanked the doctors and midwives at Stoke Mandeville Hospital for their exceptional care during this challenging time.

As Simon and Derrina prepare to bring Theo home from the hospital, the proud father announced that he would be taking a break from Soccer Saturday to spend quality time with his newborn. However, he assured fans that he would return to host the football panel in the near future.

Simon and Derrina met in 2018 and dated for four years before exchanging vows at Norwich Cathedral. Their wedding was a special occasion, with Simon’s 11-year-old son Ethan serving as the best man. Simon shares Ethan with his late wife Gemma Thomas, who tragically passed away in 2017, just three days after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Gemma’s tragic passing left her loved ones devastated. In a heartfelt interview on Loose Women, the presenter opened up about his struggle to move forward. He shared with ITV viewers, “After such a loss, you’re faced with two options. You can either surrender to despair and confine yourself to a metaphorical cage. And if that’s what some individuals choose, it’s not our place to judge. Personally, I simply long for happiness once more, and I am certain Gemma would want the same for me.”
