SKY SPORTS PRESENTER CELEBRATES ONE YEAR OF BEING CANCER-FREE AFTER BATTLE WITH CERVICAL CANCER

Jo Wilson, the popular Sky Sports presenter, has reached a major milestone in her battle against cervical cancer. Diagnosed with stage three of the disease in 2022, Jo underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments to fight the cancer. Now, two years later, the 39-year-old is celebrating one year of being cancer-free. Doctors have confirmed that there is no “evidence of disease” in her body after two clear PET scans.

Although Jo has successfully defeated cancer, she now faces a new challenge – early menopause caused by the radiotherapy treatments. This means that she experiences physical strain on a daily basis. Jo opened up about the impact of her treatment, saying, “Just the brain fog, the hot flushes, feeling exhausted, so definitely the physical impact. But I also know I’m quite lucky because there’s a whole list of side effects that are more serious than that, that I have managed to avoid. In a way I feel quite lucky that I’ve not got worse side effects, but yes, there are definitely still effects that I am dealing with.”

Using her own experience as a platform, Jo is urging women to prioritize their health and go for regular smear tests. She emphasized the importance of these tests, stating, “I just want to reiterate the importance of smear tests particularly, as women we all know we should go, but sometimes it’s moved down the priority list. You get the letter through the post, you chuck it in the drawer, you think, ‘I’ll deal with this in a few weeks’, but I need to remind people this is a priority. I hope that by sharing my story, people realize that if it can happen to me, it can happen to you and it can happen to anyone.”

Looking towards the future, Jo is focusing on her daughter and cherishing every moment with her. She also has exciting plans for her upcoming 40th birthday, where she intends to celebrate with friends and family. This significant milestone of being cancer-free for one year has given Jo a renewed perspective on life and has inspired her to think more about the future.

In addition to her personal journey, Jo is supporting Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in partnership with Standard Life. To learn more about this important cause, visit raceforlife.org.
