SIR RANULPH REVEALS BRAVE BATTLE WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE

In a candid interview, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, 80, opened up about his battle with Parkinson’s Disease while filming his latest travel series in Canada. The renowned explorer, accompanied by his younger third cousin, retraced the steps of his 1971 Headless Valley Expedition, shedding light on his condition that he had bravely kept hidden for years. Speaking to Joseph, the pair discussed the importance of raising awareness about Parkinson’s and the impact it has on sufferers. Fiennes expressed his hope for a cure and revealed that cold swimming provides him with the most relief.

During the interview, Fiennes also touched upon the challenges of male ageing and frailty. Despite his age, the explorer continues to embark on daring journeys, now predominantly by car. The North American expedition in the early 70s was a grueling adventure, with much of the territory inaccessible except by air, water, or a long trek. Today, the area remains largely unexplored.

Fiennes: Return to the Wild, the travel series documenting Sir Ranulph’s latest expedition, will premiere on National Geographic on Sunday, 26 May at 8pm. The show promises an intimate look into the explorer’s life, including his health struggles and his unwavering love for exploration.

As for what the future holds for Sir Ranulph and his cousin, Joseph jokingly mentioned an offer from Elon Musk to go to space. While space exploration may not be on the horizon, the duo’s adventures continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
