Ruth Langsford, the popular television presenter, was seen in tears as she revealed her feelings of loneliness just months before news broke of her split from Eamonn Holmes, her partner of 14 years. The couple, who have been a fixture on This Morning for over a decade, have reportedly decided to end their marriage. The Sun reported: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

This revelation comes after a heartfelt moment on Loose Women in December, where Ruth became overwhelmed with emotion as she discussed her family dynamics. The 64-year-old presenter described the pain she felt when her son Jack went off to university, saying it felt like “part of my heart ripped out.”

During a live video chat, Ruth tearfully admitted: “That first week of not having him at home literally felt like part of my heart ripped out. I kept his bedroom door shut.” She went on to explain how she would cry and hold onto his pillow, trying to hold onto the scent of her son. The first week without him was incredibly difficult for her.

Ruth’s son Jack, who is 21 years old, recently celebrated his 21st birthday with his famous parents. He is currently studying broadcast journalism at Salford University. While Jack is Ruth’s only child, Eamonn has three other children from his previous marriage; Declan, Rebecca, and Niall.

Reflecting on the emotional turmoil of her son leaving for university, Ruth admitted to experiencing empty nest syndrome. She described the moment they dropped Jack off at university, saying: “The day we dropped Jack off at university, we said goodbye and, as we got around the corner, I burst into tears and Eamonn was crying too. It sounds dramatic but for the next three days, I felt like I’d had my womb ripped out.”

Despite the initial pain, Ruth shared that she has now adjusted to her son being away at university. She no longer gets as upset when he comes home and then leaves again. Jack seems happy, and Ruth is finding comfort in that.
