Penny Lancaster, the stunning wife of rock legend Sir Rod Stewart, turned heads in a black floral mini dress and beige strappy sandals, showcasing her age-defying beauty. She was seen alongside her rarely-seen brother Oliver as they chatted with journalists at the Apollo Theatre before the highly anticipated Fawlty Towers: The Play.

The iconic British sitcom, which first aired almost fifty years ago, has now made its way to the West End and achieved legendary status. John Cleese, one of the creators of the show, recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of Adam Jackson-Smith taking on the role of Basil Fawlty.

In an interview on the Chris Moyles Breakfast Show on Radio X, Cleese emphasized the importance of his role as a writer in the creation of Fawlty Towers. He expressed that he doesn’t mind if someone else portrays Basil, as he believes the writing is the key element. Cleese admitted, “I was always aware that different people might play it if it was successful – and it’s very interesting because sometimes they add things I can’t do.”

Sharing insights into his writing process, Cleese revealed that it would typically take him six weeks to craft each Fawlty Towers episode. He explained, “If it’s six weeks, you come up with more ideas and the more funny ideas you have, the funnier the show is!”

Fawlty Towers: The Play is being hailed as the “stage comedy event of the year” and is expected to captivate audiences. At 84 years old, Cleese playfully suggested that he reprised his role as Basil to avoid flying economy. He humorously added, “This is about getting myself a nest egg, so I can get a place in the sun because I have a problem with British weather.”

Penny’s husband, Rod Stewart, was noticeably absent from the red carpet festivities, despite usually being inseparable from his wife. However, Penny appeared to be in high spirits, indicating that she, like the thousands of other guests, was excited to experience Fawlty Towers in a new and unique format.
