Lionel Richie’s pregnant daughter, Sofia Richie, is feeling overwhelmed as she prepares for the arrival of her first baby. The 25-year-old and her husband, Elliot Grainge, are on the verge of a “nervous breakdown,” according to the 74-year-old singer. During an interview with “Extra,” Lionel jokingly advised Sofia to calm down, stating that her nervous breakdown will only begin once the baby arrives. Lionel expressed how fulfilled his life is at the moment, mentioning the success of his documentary, “We Are the World,” and Sofia’s pregnancy. He playfully questioned what was happening in his life, with his baby now having a baby.
Lionel initially shared his excitement about his daughter’s pregnancy in January, shortly after the couple’s announcement. He expressed his joy for Elliot and Sofia, stating that they were overjoyed. When it comes to being called “grandpa” by his grandchildren, Lionel prefers the term “pop-pop.” He explained that “grandpa” felt too deep for him, and he preferred the more casual and affectionate term. Lionel already has two grandchildren from his daughter Nicole Richie and her husband Joel Madden, named Harlow and Sparrow.
The news of Sofia’s pregnancy initially startled Lionel, but he quickly realized that she and Elliot are a strong couple. He believes that their baby will be exceptional and unlike anything he has ever seen before. Sofia and Grainge went public with their relationship in early 2021 and got engaged in April 2022. They tied the knot in a lavish wedding in France in April 2023, with notable guests such as Paris Hilton and Cameron Diaz in attendance. Sofia celebrated her engagement with a bachelorette party in Paris and a bridal shower.
