Myleene Klass, former member of the pop group Hear’Say, has threatened to reveal all about her time on the reality series Popstars. The 46-year-old singer and musician, who won the first edition of the show in 2001, claims to have kept diaries during her time on the show. Hear’Say, which also included Kym Marsh, Danny Foster, Suzanne Shaw, and Noel Sullivan, became overnight sensations but faced backlash from the public soon after. Despite the group’s split, Myleene’s career in music and TV continued.

Recently, a Twitter user announced their plan to re-watch old episodes of Popstars, which also launched the careers of Liberty X and Girls Aloud. Myleene responded to the tweet by jokingly saying she was already looking for a therapist online. The clips shared on Twitter showed Myleene and her bandmates being moved into a house with no plumbing. Myleene then confirmed in a tweet that she had kept diaries during her time on the show.

Another highlight from the Twitter thread showed head judge Nigel Lythgoe making derogatory comments about Kym, calling her a “goose” and saying she had “gotten fat”. This caused Kym, who would later join the cast of Coronation Street, to break down in tears. Myleene defended Kym in the clip, criticizing the pressure put on women to lose weight. Kym requested for the footage to be scrapped, but Nigel insisted that she go on a diet.

Hear’Say achieved instant success in the early 2000s with their debut single “Pure and Simple” selling over 500,000 copies and reaching number one on the charts. However, the group quickly fell out of favor with British TV viewers and eventually split up, citing abuse from the public as the main reason for their decision.

Nigel Lythgoe, known for his controversial antics on the show, was recently spotted with Myleene. The pair made headlines when Myleene revealed that they had faced criticism from none other than Sir Elton John himself. The music icon famously dubbed them ‘the ugliest band in the world’, but later made amends by sending them a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Myleene’s shocking revelation adds her to the growing list of reality TV contestants from the 2000s and 2010s who are speaking out about the dark side of the industry. Katie Waissel, a former contestant on The X Factor in 2010, joined the chorus of voices last year. She exposed the abuse, manipulation, and coercion that occurred behind the scenes of the popular show, echoing the sentiments of many others who have bravely come forward.

In her own words, Katie stated, “The show was disturbingly manufactured and manipulated… There are serious and significant issues that need to be addressed and resolved.”
