Mauricio Pochettino Eyes Manchester United Job After Chelsea Exit

Mauricio Pochettino, the recently departed Chelsea manager, is reportedly interested in taking over the reins at Manchester United if current manager Erik ten Hag is sacked. The Argentine coach is also said to be on the radar of the English FA.

Pochettino left Chelsea by mutual agreement after a challenging 11-month tenure. Despite the difficulties, he managed to guide the team to five consecutive victories, securing a place in Europe and reaching the final of the Carabao Cup and the semi-final of the FA Cup.

Considering the club’s numerous injuries and significant player turnover during the summer transfer window, Pochettino’s performance was generally well-regarded. Both the club’s hierarchy and the manager himself have reportedly parted ways amicably, with different visions for the team’s future.

Pochettino’s successful stint at Chelsea has not gone unnoticed, and several clubs and national teams are eager to speak with him. The Times reports that he could potentially take over at Manchester United if Ten Hag is relieved of his duties after the FA Cup final.

While Chelsea finished behind United in the Premier League table, they ended the season three points and two places higher, with 20 more goals scored.

Pochettino, who is believed to have the support of minority owners Ineos, is keen to explore the possibility of joining United. The legendary former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has long admired Pochettino and has previously expressed his desire to see him in the Old Trafford dugout during his time at Tottenham.

However, Manchester United may not be the only option for Pochettino. The Telegraph reports that he could be one of the top candidates for the England job if current manager Gareth Southgate decides to step down after Euro 2024. Pochettino has expressed his openness to the role in the past, emphasizing his positive relationship with England and his commitment to developing young players for the national team.

Additionally, Pochettino has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, although talks with Burnley boss Vincent Kompany are said to be progressing for the German giants.

It remains to be seen where Pochettino’s next destination will be, but his successful tenure at Chelsea has undoubtedly put him in high demand.
