Millions of Netflix viewers in the UK may soon face disappointment as their TVs become incompatible with the popular streaming service. Sony has announced that 42 televisions from their 2014 BRAVIA range will no longer support the Netflix app starting from July 24. The removal of the app from the TVs’ Apps menu is due to technical limitations. However, there is a solution for those who still want to watch Netflix on their older TVs. By using a dongle such as an Amazon Fire Stick or Roku Streaming Stick, viewers can continue streaming content from a variety of apps, including Netflix. These dongles plug into the HDMI port on the back of the TV and utilize WiFi for streaming. Not only are they a more affordable option at around £30, but they also contribute to a more sustainable approach by avoiding the need to purchase a brand new television.

To determine if your TV is affected, you can refer to the list below. If you are unsure about the model of your TV, you can usually find it written somewhere on the casing. If it is not visible, you can navigate to the settings using your remote control to locate the model information.
