Neighbours fans have another reason to celebrate this morning as the popular soap has been nominated for a National Television Award. This is a significant achievement for the Amazon Freevee show, as it is only the second time in eighteen years that it has received a nomination. Just weeks ago, Neighbours also experienced success in the US. The long list of nominees is currently open for voting, with Neighbours going up against its good friends EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Doctors, Home and Away, and Coronation Street in the ‘Serial Drama’ category. Despite not winning yet, this nomination is fantastic news for the soap, especially considering it has been cancelled twice in its 39-year history.

In addition to the National Television Award nomination, Neighbours has also received two Daytime Emmys nominations. Originally broadcast on the Seven Network, the show didn’t perform well outside of Melbourne where it is produced. After eight months, the last episode was aired. However, rival Channel 10 recognized the potential of the program and picked it up for a new run just two months later. The introduction of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan to the cast helped make Neighbours Australia’s biggest media export. It first aired on BBC One in the UK in 1986 and later moved to Channel 5 in 2008.

Viewing figures in Australia have been on the decline, but luckily, Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service Freevee has come to the rescue. After 5 cut their funding in 2022, Freevee picked up the show and has been airing new episodes daily since last September. The show recently reached a milestone with its 9,000th episode, and fans have been loving the perfect mix of drama and comedy.

In a shocking twist, beloved character Dr. Karl Kennedy, played by Alan Fletcher, has been accused of a rather unusual crime – being a serial neighbourhood pooper. This scandal has sent shockwaves through the community and has fans eagerly awaiting the resolution.

Meanwhile, Krista Sinclair, portrayed by Majella Davis, has hit rock bottom after suffering a miscarriage. To make matters worse, Paul Robinson’s girlfriend Chelsea, played by Viva Bianca, locked Krista in a sauna at Lassiter’s. This heartbreaking storyline has tugged at viewers’ heartstrings as they watch Krista struggle to cope with her loss.

With these gripping storylines and talented cast, it’s no wonder that this show continues to captivate audiences. Tune in to Freevee to catch all the latest twists and turns in this addictive drama.
