SERENA STARKEY ON THE RUN AFTER SON WITH DOWN SYNDROME FOUND STARVED TO DEATH IN ALABAMA MOTEL

A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Birmingham, Alabama, as a 13-year-old boy with Down syndrome was discovered dead from starvation in a motel. Aston Starkey’s lifeless body was found at an Extended Stay America, where he and his mother, Serena Starkey, were residing. Shockingly, Serena remains at large, evading authorities for over three months.

On the morning of March 2, police were called to the motel on Cahaba Park Circle near US 280, where they urgently rushed Aston to Grandview Hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. An initial investigation by the Birmingham Police Department deemed Aston’s death as suspicious, prompting the Shelby County DHR to launch their own probe.

Disturbingly, Aston’s autopsy results, received on June 6, revealed that his cause of death was malnutrition and dehydration, both exacerbated by neglect. The medical examiner’s office classified his manner of death as a homicide. Following this revelation, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office swiftly issued an arrest warrant for Serena on charges of murder.

Aston, originally from Florida, frequently relocated with his mother, with their most recent move being to Birmingham approximately a year ago. Shockingly, the teenager was not attending school and rarely received medical attention, according to authorities.

Serena Starkey, a white woman, remains on the loose, and the Birmingham Police Department’s homicide unit is urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward. This devastating case marks the 57th murder investigation in Birmingham this year, with only five resulting in justifiable death rulings.

This tragic incident brings to mind a similar case in Florida, where a vegan mother was convicted of starving her 18-month-old son to death by exclusively feeding him raw vegetables and fruits. The toddler’s parents discovered him lifeless, and prosecutors accused the mother of neglecting to seek medical help when he fell ill.

The search for Serena Starkey continues as authorities strive for justice in this heart-wrenching case.
