MARY’S CLEVER WAY TO REMEMBER CORONATION STREET RESIDENTS

In a street known for its frequent moves, Mary Taylor has come up with a clever trick to remember who lives where. Over the past 63 years, Coronation Street veteran Ken Barlow has called seven different houses his home, while Gail Rodwell has settled in five houses in the last 50 years. Not far behind is Steve McDonald, who has moved eight times in his 35 years on the cobbled street. Despite their relocations, all three have managed to stay within the Weatherfield postcode.

During a gathering at the Rovers, celebrating Rita’s 92nd birthday, the residents discussed ways to improve memory as they age. Brian Packham suggested puzzle books, but Mary had her own unique solution. She has memorized the names of everyone on the terraced side of the street and turned them into a catchy rhyme, inspired by the children’s TV show Trumpton. The show, which first aired in 1967, featured a character named Captain Flack who would recite a list of officers at the fire station. Mary’s version includes the names of key families and residents from each house, such as the Barlows, Baileys, Chesney, Dev, Dobbs, Eileen, and Kevin.

While Ken, Brian, and Audrey were impressed by Mary’s mnemonic device, Rita agreed with her that it has become a part of her daily routine. Poor Mary has had a tough week, especially after saying goodbye to her favorite Good Morning Britain host, Ben Shepherd.
