FOOTBALL FAN MISSES OUT ON £800K BET WIN AFTER CASHING OUT MOMENTS BEFORE
In a heartbreaking turn of events, scaffolder Ethan Conway, 24, narrowly missed out on winning a staggering £800,000 in a recent bet. Despite this, he still managed to pocket a cool £5,000 from his lucky punt, leaving him feeling both grateful and disappointed.
The Liverpool fan placed a £219 bet on the exact scores of three matches on the final day of the 2023-24 Premier League season. Astonishingly, Ethan correctly predicted the results for Brighton 0-2 Manchester United, Liverpool 2-0 Wolves, and Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur.
However, in a moment of premature excitement, Ethan decided to cash out for £5,130 when the Manchester United score was still 1-0. Little did he know that a last-minute goal by Rasmus Højlund in the 88th minute would have secured him an incredible £814,000 on his 3717/1 bet.
Hailing from Mountain Ash, South Wales, Ethan expressed his devastation, stating, “I was just tamping [Welsh word for furious] really. Just heartbroken – disbelief if anything. I was looking at new cars, new houses, but obviously it’s a different story now. My family and friends were in disbelief as well. But obviously they’re happy that I won the five grand.”
Ethan, who regularly bets on matches, admitted that this was the first time he had ever won such a substantial amount of money. However, he now firmly believes that he won’t be placing any more bets in the near future. Reflecting on his recent experience, he said, “I just had a rough guess and it just came in. Just pure luck. I’ve come out of it now. I’ve just won that and run. I’ll have to get over this one first. It’s just the 50/50 chance of it – you either cash out or you don’t. I’m just gutted really.”
