Lorraine Kelly has spilled the beans on the gender of her daughter Rosie’s baby, revealing her excitement at becoming a grandmother. The 64-year-old TV presenter hinted that her beloved dachshund Ruby will soon have a “little sister”, suggesting Rosie is expecting a baby girl.

The baby is due in September and Lorraine couldn’t contain her joy, exclaiming: “This is the most exciting thing to happen to our family, well, since Rosie was born. Last night, I felt the baby kick for the first time, which was amazing. It made it all feel real.”

Rosie, who was born in 1994, is Lorraine and cameraman husband Steve Smith’s only child. The 29-year-old discovered she was pregnant on New Year’s Eve, jokingly mentioning it was “right after buying loads of alcohol and a cold meat platter, which I then couldn’t touch”.

She recently moved in with her partner, also named Steve, and they bought their first home in Islington, North London. They are eagerly looking forward to the next chapter in their lives, with Rosie admitting they “both wanted to become parents young, so that our parents can be around as much as possible”.

The baby’s name is expected to have a Scottish influence, reflecting Rosie’s heritage.

In an interview with HELLO! magazine, Lorraine admitted to having suspicions before her daughter Rosie shared the news of her pregnancy in April, saying: “I thought she was looking a bit unwell, but I had no idea it was that, so it was the best surprise. Of course, I cried when I found out and Rosie’s dad Steve is over the moon too.”

Lorraine has always dreamed of being a grandmother but made it clear that she “never wanted to pressure Rosie”. Now, with the arrival of her grandchild just around the corner, she admits she “couldn’t be more thrilled” and fully embraces the title of ‘Granny’.

She declared: “I’m very happy with being called Granny. I know some people don’t like that, but I think it’s an honor.”

As she looks forward to her new role, Lorraine revealed her real name, causing quite a buzz among fans. The beloved daytime TV icon, recently honored with a BAFTA Special Award, will be known as ‘Granny Smith’, sharing a name with the famous apple variety, as Smith is her married surname.

She joked: “I’m actually going to be Granny Smith!”

Speaking to Bella Magazine, Lorraine gushed over her daughter, while acknowledging that she didn’t want to be “too much of a bother”.

Lorraine, the proud mother, expressed her support for her daughter Rosie, stating, “I’ve just said to Rosie, ‘I’m here for you, anything you need’.” Lorraine also mentioned their close relationship, where Rosie would not hesitate to tell her to “go home” if she became bothersome. The doting mother further praised Rosie, asserting that she will be an exceptional mother and highlighting that Rosie is more mature than herself.
