Kelly, 39, revealed that Simon had a confrontation with them before their planned appearance on American Idol. The family was ready to go on camera when they were suddenly pulled away. Simon apparently stated, “I don’t want them on the show” and had them removed during a commercial break. Sharon confirmed that Simon never brought up the incident again, suggesting that he probably doesn’t even remember. Kelly described the situation as “really awkward.”
In addition to this revelation, Kelly also shared a troubling experience with a TV executive who pressured her to lose weight if she wanted to succeed in showbusiness. When she was a child, she was brought into the office of the head of the agency who gave her a speech about being too fat for TV. He told her that she needed to lose weight to look better and potentially become a movie star. Kelly recalled a specific incident where she had booked a movie role in Freaky Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan, but quit right before filming due to her mother’s cancer diagnosis. She described the executive’s comments as the most insulting thing she had ever heard.
