THE GODFATHER OF PUNK’S TRANQUIL LIFE: ‘I LIKE BATHS WITH RUBBER DUCKS AND BUBBLES’

The legendary punk icon, known as the ‘Godfather of Punk,’ has revealed that his wild and hedonistic days are now a thing of the past. The Stooges frontman recently shared that he now embraces a more peaceful and serene lifestyle. During a listening party at the Cannes Film Festival, hosted by Magnum, he disclosed, “I like baths, sometimes with a rubber duck and bubbles – yeah definitely bubbles.”

The punk icon went on to explain that he often gets upset if he hasn’t done anything he truly enjoys by the end of the day. He finds pleasure in music and the sea, which he considers to be his default settings. “That’s my default setting, so I’m always putting my pleasure first – I can get really desperate to seek pleasure – and when that happens usually it means someone takes me to the beach. Chill for me is about 95 per cent of life, I’m chill all the time.”

Love and privacy are now the two main elements that bring him euphoria. He expressed, “If I get both of those in one day, then it’s WOW.” However, he emphasized that music still holds a special place in his heart, stating, “Euphoria for me needs an external kind of agency – like a killer piece of music that just makes you [go] ‘WOAH’! And you’re full of surprise and it takes you somewhere.”

When asked about his inspirations, the punk icon mentioned James Brown, Jerry Lewis, and Keith Richards. He also mentioned teaming up with Siouxsie Sioux to record a new version of his hit song ‘The Passenger’ for a Magnum ice cream advert. The advert is part of the launch for Magnum’s new Pleasure Express range, consisting of three new flavors – Euphoria, Wonder, and Chill.

During the listening party, Grammy-nominated Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan was also present to celebrate the release of his ‘Honey – Remix EP,’ which is part of Magnum’s ‘Wherever Pleasure Takes You’ campaign. Sivan shared his thoughts on capturing the right mood and feeling in music, mentioning the importance of finding time for chill moments of pleasure in his day-to-day life.

As the ‘Godfather of Punk’ continues to embrace a more tranquil lifestyle, he looks forward to reconnecting with his fans and experiencing the euphoria that comes with performing live once again.
