During a recent episode of Good Morning Britain, hosted by Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, guest Lauren Palmer shared her heartbreaking story of losing both of her parents to HIV. Her father had been infected by contaminated blood and passed away just a week later. Lauren and another guest discussed the impact of contaminated blood products and transfusions between 1970 and 1991. Shockingly, over 30,000 people were infected with hepatitis C and HIV during that time, resulting in the deaths of 3,000 individuals. Today, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to issue a formal government apology for this scandal.

Moved by the guests’ stories, former athlete Sharron Davies, 61, joined the conversation via video link. She revealed that her own mother had developed liver cancer in her 40s after receiving contaminated blood during an operation. Sharron became emotional as she expressed her admiration for the dignity shown by the guests in the face of such tragedy. She also highlighted the negligence and lack of accountability surrounding this issue, stating that other countries have managed to hold drug companies accountable, while the UK has lagged behind.

Sharron tearfully called for action, stating that it is time for the UK to confront its mistakes and provide justice for the victims. She emphasized the need to stop the cycle of scandals and take responsibility for the harm caused. Viewers took to X to express their outrage, with one commenter questioning why it took so long for this issue to be resolved and suggesting that former Prime Ministers Blair and Brown should also apologize.
