Gloria Hunniford, 84, made an appearance on The One Show on BBC One alongside Angela Rippon from Strictly Come Dancing. During the interview, host Clara Amfo wanted to highlight Gloria’s recent achievement of receiving the Freedom of the County Armagh Borough. Clara asked Gloria to explain the honor to those who may not understand its significance. Gloria jokingly replied, “Well, I’m not sure if it allows me to drive sheep over the river, but apparently I am the first woman to receive it. They have only given out three of them since 2015, so I am very proud.” She further expressed her pride in receiving the honor as it is where she was born, raised, and educated, emphasizing her strong connection to the place.

In addition to her recent accolade, Gloria has an OBE for her remarkable contributions to broadcasting and cancer charities. She appeared thrilled as she was congratulated on the show. Gloria has always been an advocate for various causes and charities. In a recent interview with Women’s Health, she opened up about the pain of high blood pressure and its impact on her family. Reflecting on her father’s death, she shared, “I always thought my dad was extremely fit, and he wasn’t a drinker. However, back then, we didn’t know much about the dangers of smoking. So it was a real shock when he suffered a severe stroke.” Although he lived for a few more years, Gloria revealed that his high blood pressure caused narrowing of the brain’s arteries, leading to dementia and eventually a fatal stroke.

Gloria’s appearance on The One Show showcased her enduring popularity as a panelist on Loose Women. Last week, she left her co-stars speechless with a sly comment directed at presenter Denise Welch. When Denise expressed her desire to move abroad to escape the UK’s constant rain, Gloria quipped, “When are you going?” The One Show airs on BBC One weeknights at 7pm.
