GB News faces potential sanctions from Ofcom after a review of complaints regarding their programme People’s Forum with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Ofcom deemed the breach to be “serious and repeated” and concluded that the programme had violated broadcasting due impartiality rules.

In response to the ruling, GB News stated on their website that they were perplexed by Ofcom’s claim that the programme lacked a wide range of significant views necessary for impartiality. They maintained that the programme adhered to the Broadcasting Code and argued that Ofcom has a legal obligation to uphold freedom of speech and not interfere with news organizations’ editorial decisions within the bounds of the law.

The channel emphasized that this decision by Ofcom is a significant moment that should concern anyone who believes in the media’s role of giving a voice to the people of the United Kingdom, particularly those who often feel unheard or ignored by politicians. GB News asserted their commitment to being the “People’s Channel” and vowed to continue fighting for the right of all individuals in the UK, regardless of their political beliefs, to have their perspectives heard.

The audience for the show was handpicked by pollster Survation, with each member claiming to be open to changing their vote or still undecided. However, despite encouraging viewers at home to submit questions, it was noted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that this did not occur.

Stephen Dixon hosted the show, with Sunak addressing a wide range of topics including the NHS, Rwanda, trans issues, and education. The event took place in County Durham, a key battleground in the upcoming general election.
