Football legend John Barnes has made a triumphant return to the music scene with a new summer hit. After a 34-year hiatus, Barnes has collaborated with plant-based food company This to create a football-inspired tune titled “This is the One”. The song, filled with barbecue puns and football references, is set to give the unofficial anthem of the Euros 2024 a run for its money. In the accompanying video, Barnes takes charge of the BBQ while a Gareth Southgate lookalike enjoys a burger. The song even references iconic footballers such as Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Paul Gascoigne, as well as current squad players like Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, and Jude Bellingham.

Barnes, who played for England and later became a manager and pundit, last hit the charts in 1990 with the England World Cup song “World in Motion”. Now, 34 years later, he is back in the spotlight. “World in Motion”, performed by New Order and the England football team, topped the UK singles chart. Barnes contributed his rapping skills to the track, solidifying its success.

In an interview with This, Barnes expressed his excitement about the new song. He described it as a “win-win situation” and emphasized the universal love for football anthems. Barnes highlighted the British tradition of barbecues and the current Euros as key inspirations for the song. He also praised the collaboration with This, which not only brings together barbecuing, football, and music but also promotes environmental consciousness.

With Barnes’ return to the music scene, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of “This is the One” and its potential to become the next football anthem.

According to the latest odds, England is the top contender to win the tournament, following their second-place finish in Euro 2020 where they lost to Italy. Germany, France, and Portugal are also expected to perform strongly and will likely be the main rivals for the English team.

The first Euros match for England is scheduled for Sunday, June 16, where they will go head-to-head with Serbia at 8pm. If you have any celebrity stories, videos, or pictures, please contact us.
