Emmerdale Star Slams Soap’s Shocking Plot Twist

Emmerdale’s Chris Chittell, known for his role as Eric Pollard, has joined fans in criticizing the show’s latest storyline. In a recent interaction with a fan on X, the 76-year-old actor shared his thoughts on the scripts. He specifically commented on a plot that involved Ethan Anderson (played by Emile John) being brutally attacked in an act of revenge.

The storyline saw Ethan attempting to save Suni Sharma (played by Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana), with Nicky Milligan (played by Lewis Cope) in the passenger seat. Unfortunately, their mission ended in a car crash. This turn of events left fans questioning the disturbing nature of the plot. One fan on X expressed their confusion, stating, “This Ethan story is really odd. He’s supposed to be a man of the law, yet he’s giving the moral high ground to his dad? How does that work when he’s clearly in the wrong too? And then there’s the ‘no comment’ trick with the solicitor next to him.”

Chris wasted no time in responding to the criticism, sharing his own thoughts on the matter. He replied, “I think you’re being polite!” This is not the first time the veteran actor has voiced his dissatisfaction with Emmerdale’s storylines. He previously described them as “sensationalist.”

Reflecting on his time on the show during Emmerdale’s 50-year anniversary, Chris highlighted the significant changes in the topics of the storylines. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “They’re all sensationalist, which is a shame. As actors, we have to reflect life and do our jobs. But the way life is portrayed now, it’s all about death and danger. That’s not what life is really like.”

Chris, who has been a part of Emmerdale since 1986, holds the record for being the show’s longest-serving cast member. Emmerdale airs on ITV weekdays at 7.30pm.
