Emma Thompson and Greg Wise’s 20-year marriage has been the talk of the town, and now the secret to their lasting love has been unveiled. The couple, who first met on the set of Sense and Sensibility in 1995, celebrated Greg’s 58th birthday today (May 15). They exchanged vows in 2003 and have two children together – adopted son Tindyebwa Agaba, 36, and daughter Gaia, 24.

Opening up about their successful relationship, Greg shared with HELLO! magazine, “To keep bloody working at it. If it’s a friendship that also has a love and children attached, you’ve got to work that much harder.” Despite their demanding careers that often keep them apart, the film producer revealed that their ability to handle separation is key. He explained, “Possibly the secret is not spending the entire time together. As actors, there is a lot of separation in our life because we get ripped away to spend months filming or touring. So we are probably quite good at plumbing ourselves back in after long times of being apart.”

In a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Greg made a surprising revelation. He shared that he was not invited to the Oscars when Emma won her second Academy Award, even though he starred in the film alongside her. Emma took home the Adapted Screenplay award in 1996 for Sense and Sensibility, but Greg’s role as John Willoughby didn’t earn him a spot at the star-studded event. Instead, Emma was accompanied by her mother, actress Phyllida Law.

When asked about not receiving an invitation, Greg responded, “Yeah. That’s how it works. I am holding up the ballerina,” using a metaphor to describe his supportive role. Despite not attending the prestigious ceremony, Greg seemed unfazed. “I was no one,” he admitted. However, Susanna Reid, the show’s host, reassured him, saying, “But you’re not no one.” Greg simply replied, “That’s fine. I don’t have to go to everything.”
