Doctor Who just dropped a major plot twist in its latest episode, Boom. The sci-fi series introduced a significant character cameo that left fans stunned. Ncuti Gatwa stars as the Fifteenth Doctor, who, alongside companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), finds themselves facing a deadly threat on Kastarion 3. The episode, written by former showrunner Steven Moffat, reveals that Kastarion 3 is embroiled in a devastating war with a religious military group called the Anglicans. Tragically, one of the soldiers, John (Joe Anderson), is killed, leaving behind his daughter, Splice (Caoilinn Springall), who is being watched over by Mundy Flynn (Varada Sethu), the season two companion.

Varada Sethu, known for her role in Andor, made a surprise appearance in the latest Doctor Who episode. This came as a shock to fans, as it was previously announced that she would join the TARDIS team in 2025. However, her early arrival on the show has left viewers curious about her role. Throughout the episode, it becomes evident that Mundy has unspoken feelings for fellow soldier Canterbury, also known as Canto (Bhav Joshi). As Splice goes in search of her father on the battlefield, Mundy and Canto follow, leading to a tense encounter with the Doctor and Ruby.

Despite a rocky start, Mundy ultimately takes Splice under her wing by the end of the episode. However, tragedy strikes when Canto is accidentally killed by a rogue battlefield AI ambulance. Instead of joining the Doctor and Ruby on the TARDIS, Mundy decides to stay on the planet and care for Splice. This unexpected turn of events sets the stage for Sethu’s future as a full-time companion in the TARDIS starting in 2025.

It’s not uncommon for Doctor Who to introduce companions or even Doctors ahead of their official run on the show. Catherine Tate, who played Donna Noble, first appeared in the 2006 Christmas special and later became a fan-favorite companion. Similarly, Karen Gillan made a brief appearance in a previous season before becoming a series regular in the fifth season. The show has a history of surprising and delighting fans with unexpected character introductions.

SETHU SET TO MAKE A COMEBACK IN DOCTOR WHO

Exciting news for Doctor Who fans as it has been revealed that Sethu, a key character introduced earlier in the series, will be returning as a full-time companion. Showrunner Russell T Davies and writer Moffat have strategically planned this guest role, making Sethu’s reappearance all the more significant.

This is not the first time Moffat has surprised us with a character’s return. In the season 7 opener, Asylum of the Daleks, we were introduced to Oswin, who later became the beloved companion Clara Oswald. Moffat cleverly wove her premature appearance into the plot, revealing that she was trapped in the Doctor’s timestream.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Moffat hinted at Sethu’s return, saying, “She’s there! We’re just going to do Clara again. So it’s fun, isn’t it? It wakes you up. You think, ‘Ah, there she is!'”

Details about Sethu’s return are still under wraps, but Moffat assures fans that there is a plan in place. We can’t wait to see how Sethu’s story unfolds in the upcoming episodes. Stay tuned for more updates!
